LETTER FROM THE OWNER
Welcome to our home! It holds many special memories for us,
and we are sad to be moving, but our time in DC has come to an end. We
have thoroughly enjoyed our time here in this house and the surrounding area.
One of the things we have loved most about our home are the large windows that let in lots of
natural light. The windows open on the top and bottom, creating a lovely breeze throughout.
Another benefit, over which we continually pinched ourselves, was having our own garage -
especially one large enough to park our car and still have room to hang our two kayaks, which
we frequently carted the four blocks to nearby waterfront. Our favorite feature, though, would be
the multiple outdoor options! The kitchen porch was a nice place to have a quiet cup of coffee in
the morning or for grabbing some fresh herbs while cooking. The rooftop deck gets plenty of sun
(great for container gardening!) and was one of our favorite areas in the house. It is also a great
spot for watching fireworks on the 4th of July, where you can see the firework shows from
across the river in Maryland, or the regular fireworks from nearby Nats Park.
The surrounding Navy Yard/Capitol Hill area is what we are going to miss most about living in
this home - and is what we first fell in love with as we were looking into buying this home four
years ago. Almost everything you need for your daily life is within a short walking distance, and
we enjoyed being able to walk to our bank, dentist, hair salon, veterinarian and local bookstores
(East City Bookshop and Capitol Hill Books are both wonderful!). There are also several grocery
stores within walking distance. We also really enjoyed going to the seasonal farmers market in
Eastern Market (Capitol Hill) and on Half Street (Navy Yard).
The area is very family-friendly, and there are great parks nearby, including a small playground
right across the street, a little community playground for residents off 3rd Pl St, and Van Ness
Elementary School the next block down. In the summer, our son enjoyed going to the splash
pad park off of 2nd and M. We regularly walked or biked to the Capital and the National Mall, or
took a relaxing walk (or kayak!) along the Anacostia River and the great Riverwalk Trail.
Our home is also centrally located near stellar entertainment and dining options. It is walkable to
both Nationals Park and Audi Stadium, home of the D.C. United and D.C. Spirit soccer teams. If
fine dining is your interest, we are within a 15-minute walk of three Michelin star restaurants:
Albi, Little Pearl and Rose’s Luxury, all of which are delightful experiences. For more casual
options, we loved Taco City, Yellow (coffee and pastries), and Ice Cream Jubilee.
The Riverfront also has some great outdoor patio spots, including The Brig, Dacha and District Winery.
We could write many more pages about specific things we love about the area, but suffice it to
say, there are many different little treasures to discover. The home and its location are hard to
beat and we will definitely miss living here in the area!
